I always want to eat fresh and healthy, but when I’m at work, well, you know how it is. Most of the time, if I don’t have a packed lunch, my office mates and I eat out, and what’s with the restaurants and fast food nowadays, there’s no guarantee you’re eating healthy food.
And then I found out about mason jar salads!
Wheee.
Mason jar salad has been making the rounds in the internet since early this year. Before, it’s such a hassle to bring a salad to the office because you need to put the ingredients in several baggies and it’s like, what a waste. Now you can just put everything in a mason jar — it’s basically a grab-and-go salad.
I can prepare a week’s worth of salad during the weekend. It’s not hard; you just have to do your grocery and then pack the fruits and veggies on mason jars.

So why mason jars? These type of jars keep the fruits and veggies fresh, not to mention the salad on the jar looks pretty.
So as you can see in the picture, you’re going to place the contents in layers. Start with the denser ingredients. First comes the dressing and then firmer ingredients, such as beans, tomatoes, and veggies. Greens are on the top: lettuce, spring mix, spinach, to name a few.
Make sure wet ingredients are properly dried off!
Once done, pack the jar tightly. Nuts, seeds, dried fruit, or cheese I keep separate on another container to prevent them being soggy.
Mason jar salads should last up to 5 days. When you’re ready to eat the salad, shake and eat directly from the jar or dump everything in a bowl. If you’re going to eat directly from the jar — easier in my opinion, and this is what I usually do — better use wide-mouthed mason jars.

So obviously we all have our preference when it comes to salad. I’m partial to Greek salad but also try other combinations like this one: diced apple, cranberries, almonds, and spinach with vinaigrette dressing.

Mason jar salads are also popular among those in diet! Speaking of which, I must go now and tell my sister.
But before that, I want to know other combinations of ingredients you want to try as a mason jar salad. Ideas?
